Teenage boy staring out the window-More than a Safe Place for tonight

More Than a Safe Place for Tonight

When a child comes to Austin’s House, everything changes instantly.

Home isn’t safe anymore. Routines disappear. A child might not know what tomorrow will bring.

That’s why we begin with the basics: A safe bed, clean clothes and shoes that fit, something to eat, a ride to school, help getting to appointments and someone there to answer questions.

And we keep being there, day after day.

Some children stay with us only briefly. For others, it takes longer to find the right place to go next.

Every child’s needs are unique. Some need to stay with siblings. Others need extra medical or emotional care. Some just need the right family and the right fit.

While we work on the next step, life keeps moving for these kids. There’s still school in the morning and homework to do. Shoes still get too small. Birthdays are still coming. Practices, appointments, favorite meals, tough days, and good ones too.

That’s the part of our work we hope no one overlooks.

Austin’s House isn’t just a place to wait. We want every child to feel safe, secure, and as close to normal as possible while they’re here.

This fall, we’ll share several ways you can help, like SkyFest, our Annual Appeal, the Wavedance Fund matching opportunity, and Austin’s House Night with the Tahoe Knight Monsters.

These events may seem different, but they all support the same purpose:

  • A meal at the table.
  • Clean clothes for school.
  • A ride where a child needs to go.
  • Help with homework.
  • A birthday celebration.
  • A familiar adult there in the morning.

These things might seem small, but for a child whose world has turned upside down, they mean everything.

Children need Austin’s House for as long as it takes. With our community’s support, we can keep being here for them.

So when you see us fundraising, inviting you to SkyFest, offering a matching gift, selling hockey tickets, asking for Annual Appeal support, or sharing our story, we hope you’ll remember what’s behind every request.

When a child in crisis has nowhere else to turn, Austin’s House will be there, as long as they need us.

With your support, we can keep being here.

Thank you.
